Summit Road Ramble with Jane – Wednesday 22 February 2017

Trip report by: by Jane

It was a hot sunny morning when 6 of us met where the Summit Road abruptly ends near the Gondola.  From this point only bikes and foot traffic can continue.  The road, eaten away by rockfalls from the quakes is a stark reminder of what we have been through, and by chance we were exploring it on the 6th Anniversary.  The views are amazing, although it was very hazy on the day we visited, and we were introduced to some special plants which only grow in this small area.   We walked along the old road to the Bridle Path and then returned along the track which goes behind the Gondola building taking in views of Lyttelton Harbour.  After that we adjourned to Pol’s for a refreshing drink and a look around her extensive garden.  Thanks Pol for your hospitality.
