Brian has practiced his science as an entomologist, exploring all parts of New Zealand, and much of Australia, many Pacific islands, Japan, Taiwan, Hawaii, Canada and other exciting places. He has built up huge collections of moths, butterflies and aquatic orders of insects. In addition, he has published over 300 articles in journals, books and magazines.  The list includes six co-authored books and 45 booklets including 2012’s “Butterflies of the South Pacific”.  Brian’s special interests are insect-plant relationships, butterfly and moth systematics and biogeography, NZ insect photography, dry collections of NZ insects, NZ flora, fauna and geology, and diversity studies of special places.
