Attractions: 8ha of native bush that is one of the last natural vegetation areas formed on Staveley soils on the high Canterbury Plains. There is a good stand of beech, white pine and matai forest,
with a valuable collection of Coprosma species and numerous other plants, fungi, lichen and birds. Half of the bush is wetter than the other. A few minutes up Kowai Rd is Kowai Bush, a private
reserve open to the public. There are Mountain views, autumn colours and the Waimakariri River nearby.
What to Bring: Packed morning tea/lunch, collapsible seat, jacket in case of weather changes, sturdy footwear, sun screen, camera, lens, tripod and any other equipment you would use for
landscape, fungi and wildlife photography.
Meet at: 9.00am Yellow Shack Café, Springfield. Then drive to Lords Bush (10min, 6km north). It is approx 1 hour drive from ChCh to Lords Bush. Entrances Kowai Rd (wetter side) or Rubicon Rd.
Other Info: As it is a sheltered Beech Forest this walk is achievable in most weather conditions. There are tracks through the bush which you can follow by the pink ribbons in the trees/bushes.
However there are places where the track is overgrown and the surface undulating. Care will be required. Sturdy footwear is recommended.
