NPSNZ Wellington 3 part trip,

Kapiti Island:  17th Wednesday – 19th Friday, March 2021

Kapiti Limit: 20 people, if full, waiting list applies

Attractions: Two full days on Kapiti Island, Wellington, visit to Kapiti Island Nature Reserve with numerous bird species, enjoying genuine Maori hospitality and wonderful meals cooked by a chef at the lodge, staying in a cosy cabin or glam tent, falling asleep to the sound of calling kiwi, weka, kaka and ruru. Experience a night time guided kiwi spotting walk with an experienced and knowledgeable guide. Watch the sunrise over Waiorua Bay. Spend first day at Rangatira in the middle of the island and the second with coastal or hill walk to the north end of the island.

Kapiti Costs:   Waterloo Backpackers, shuttle transfer to ferry and return, ferry both ways, three meals on Kapiti, local council and DOC permits, introductory briefing, 1½ hour guided kiwi spotting night walk, and Kapiti cabins per person 2 or 4 berth $431, glam tents or ensuite house $473 all inclusive cost.
Deposit of $100.00 is payable on allocation of place on trip (then book air travel). Balance due by 19th February.

Zealandia Nature Sanctuary:  20th Saturday – 21st Sunday March 2021

Zealandia: No Limit

Attractions: using local buses for two day visits to Zealandia – the Karori Sanctuary Experience, including a two hour guided tour there with an experienced guide who will provide insights to the native bird, reptile and plants species thriving within the predator proof world leading sanctuary.  Zealandia provides a living laboratory teaching about the natural history of our country, the science of conservation and how we can successfully live with nature. Hear and see the richness and splendour of New Zealand’s natural world from the calls of rare and endangered wildlife to the regenerating native forest. Photograph some of the 24 endemic bird species including  Takahe, Hihi, Saddleback, Kakariki, Little Brown native duck, Rifleman, Kaka, North Island robin, Grey warbler, Whitehead, Tui, Bellbird. Also see the Tuatara, Green Gecko, Tree Weta, Cave and rare giant Weta.

Staglands Wildlife Reserve: 22nd Monday, March 2021

Staglands : No Limit

Attractions: Staglands Wildlife Reserve offers a unique and exciting opportunity to feed and freely interact with wildlife in a beautiful, natural environment. Located in the scenic Akatarawa Valley twenty minutes north of Upper Hutt, it is a must see attraction for visitors. Photograph a large variety of native birds which are at the heart of the reserves conservation efforts and the main reason for the opening of the park. Visit the walk through aviary, purchase trout food for the magnificent brown and rainbow trout and gigantic eels. Participate in the lunchtime feed tour and photograph the Kune kune and Auckland Island pigs, Arapawa goats and kids, mingle amongst the free roaming fallow deer, emus and goats.
