Richard Studholme
It is with a heavy heart that we say farewell to Richard, who until recently had been Patron of NPSNZ.
He was a foundation member of the Society and had been on the original committee from 1994 until 2004. During that time he was vice president and then President for two years, and also on the organising team for the 10th Anniversary celebrations.
Richard was part of the fabric of our Society and was a regular on many field trips including our annual Cass mid-winter trip. He would regale us with humorous stories, speak with great knowledge on photography, had a penchant for infra-red film, had a darkroom in the back corner of his garage, and spent time creating clever seashell art which he would then photograph and enter into the Christmas competitions.
His family have requested that we share our special memories of Richard with them, so please feel free to send them to me and I will forward them.
One of my special memories, during one of our mid-winter Cass weekends, is of Richard skating in his gumboots on Lake Sarah while the rest of us were photographing the icy lake and ice coated plants. The lake was “singing”, and when he was out a reasonable distance, we heard a loud cracking sound. Richard hi-tailed it off the lake so fast and then collapsed on the shore laughing.
