South Westland –21-24 April (ANZAC Weekend)

Leader: James Thompson –

This trip will take us to South Westland staying in the Lake Paringa Lodge over Thursday 21 April to Sunday 24 April. The lodge has a variety of sleeping arrangements that will be arranged depending on how many couples and singles come along. There are good cooking facilities so we can self-cater for the trip.

This includes ANZAC weekend and while the trip ends on Sunday, with Monday also being a holiday people may want to make their own arrangements to head home at a slower pace e.g. perhaps via the Haast Pass.

The lodge is on the edge of the very beautiful Lake Paringa with some short and longer walks and good beaches close by. Haast is about 50km south of Lake Paringa and Fox Glacier is about 70km to the north so there is plenty of opportunity to go exploring in the area and taking great photographs. Lake Matheson is about an hour away and Bruce Bay is 14 minutes.

The South Westland Salmon Farm and Cafe are nearby so you can get a coffee fix if required.

The cost for the Lodge will be $120 per person for the three nights.

James and Andrea intend to leave Christchurch on the 20th and find a night’s accommodation on the way there. If anyone is interested in doing this let James know and perhaps we can arrange some shared accommodation.

James will begin putting together a list of places that could visit while there but would also be keen to hear from any one with their favourite or secret spot for taking great images.
