President’s Column – October 2025

Andrea and I spent the latter half of September touring around Northland in a rental camper van. We did not have much of a plan other than to head up the east coast to Cape Reinga, then down the east coast and back to Auckland. A highlight for me was seeing NZ Dotterels at a couple of beaches. These are on the endangered species list, so it was nice to see three to four pairs of them, getting ready for nesting at the two different beaches. If you haven’t spent much time in Northland, I would recommend that hiring a camper van could be a good option to see a wonderful part of New Zealand.

The Honours Board and the Committee are in the final stages of updating the Honours Rules. In November we will have an online session on how we will transition from the old rules to the new rules. See the workshop details for this in later in the newsletter.

We recently became aware that the Kaikoura Memorial has had some graffiti damage done to it. This is disappointing but we were aware that this could be likely. Currently we are looking into how we can clean that up. I may head up to Kaikoura on the Sunday of Labour weekend to do the cleaning if we can’t get it done before then.

I am looking forward to hosting our October club night on Teams rather than Google Meet. We will be able to record the meetings and post these to YouTube after the meeting. Please bear with us as we get this working for us. There are some links later in the newsletter that are worth looking at if you have not used Microsoft Teams before.

Welcome to our new members, Dale Creyghton & Cheryl Muirson.
