A visit to the Ashley River – Waikuku Beach area on 16 July was described by Carolyn as a ‘checkout’, so that we could come back again by ourselves and know where to go. 

Carolyn also took us to the natural lakes at Pegasus, the Kaiapoi Lakes, Kingfisher habitats on the canal at Kairaki, and Brooklands Lagoon. 

Murry accompanied us and  captured a wonderful image of a glossy ibis in flight. Amongst others, images were captured of a kotuku, spoonbills, white-faced heron, nesting shags, kingfishers, fantail etc. 

Thanks Carolyn for a fascinating and informative day, with many destinations, landscapes and birdlife, and super company. I’m sure that many of us will return again.
