Mid Winter at Cass – 29th June to 1st July 2018
Trip Guide: Jane
Trip Report: Marion
This was my first trip to Cass with NPSNZ and what a trip Jane organised. Although the weather decided to close in on Sunday there were plenty of photo opportunities on the Saturday and for those who arrived early enough on Friday.
Lake Pearson presented itself in all its glory at dawn on Saturday morning, but with much trepidation we realised that this could be one of the few opportunities left to make the most of photography in this beautiful spot as nearly all of the willow trees on the lake side had been ring barked – marked for extinction.
Many of the team visited Lake Sara, areas in Arthurs Pass including the Kea at the Otira Viaduct Lookout, Devils Punchbowl Fall, and various points over Mt White Road.
Over indulgence was the theme for Saturday’s pot luck dinner. There were many rather interesting Secret Santa’s and of course Carl looked the part (well almost – not sure what happened to the beard) with Kath as his worthy assistant.
As Sunday dawned with the rain falling many packed up, cleaned up and decided to call it a day. The hardier braved the rain and took the opportunity to put their skills to the test around the area.
