The group of 12 NPSNZ members made their way to Cass on Friday, looking forward to reasonably fine, but frosty weather forecasted for the weekend. Members shared their journeys to Cass, including Castle Hill, Lake Lyndon, and the roads up to various ski fields.
On Saturday morning, Lake Pearson put on a nice sunrise for us, and then it was back to the lodge for breakfast. Then on to Arthurs Pass for the obligatory date scone and coffee top-up before venturing further. Otira Valley beckoned for Robyn and I and we photographed the shaped icicles in the waterways, and experimented with multiple exposures of the mountain views and alpine plants.
The day finished with the usual potluck dinner, dessert and greedy Santa with the fire roaring. With so many wonderful “recipe” themed presents it was difficult to work out what to steal.
On Sunday morning, it was back to Lake Pearson – this time with fog and a heavy frost. Then back to the lodge again for breakfast and cleanup. Then the group set off to Lake Sarah where it was still quite frosty and the reflections didn’t disappoint. The group then dispersed, meandering their way back to Christchurch in true photographer fashion.
Many thanks to Robyn for running this trip.
