Trip report by Helen Boerlage

On a cold, grey Thursday morning a small group of six met at the Ilam Homestead in the University of Canterbury grounds.  We were taken to a part of the Christchurch 360 trail which we followed through the gardens.

Our first stop are the Blue Bells, some of which are white and pink.  In the same area there were many red, orange, and pink Rhododendron and Azaleas.  Some are in full flower, while others are still in bud.

We then followed the 360 trail to the Waiutuutu/Okeover stream passing the day care centre and the native woodlands before stopping at the Community gardens.  We tasted some of the large range of winter plants in the raised gardens beds.

From there we crossed onto University Drive and walked through the University grounds to a small park and onto the Coffee Shop.

Thanks Elizabeth for organising this morning out and showing us  part of the 360 trail.
