Avon River Ramble with Bob -Wednesday 19 August
By Bob Wright
It was great to have the good company of ten, including two prospective club members on a chilly morning.
Not many other walkers were out, and the cool easterly wind was unpleasant. Started off well with mother duck and several ducklings in the river bank, but not the best background being camouflaged by the muddy bank. It was a little early in the growing season to see the green space at its best.
When looking at the inscriptions on headstones in the Barbados Street Cemetery, there must have been some devastated families in 1876.
The 2010 Earthquake has certainly left its mark!!
The period spent in the Anglican section of the cemetery did not leave any time left to visit either the Dissenters or Catholic sections.
The following link is worthy of a click Barbadoes Street Cemetery Final Plan,  I just wonder if a review has been made since the Earthquake.
On the South side of the Avon, the work being done on the park restoration and the walkway is great, and has encouraged many walkers on a nice sunny day. To  wind up the morning we enjoyed a hot drink and a chat at Little Poms Cafe.
