Francie Winter: Lake Tennyson

On Saturday a group of us headed over Jacks Pass into the Clarence Valley for the day.  Upon reaching the valley we were fortunate to find mist lingering back up in some of the gullies presenting us with our first photo opportunity.

Carrying on up the road dodging numerous potholes our next stop was at the old buildings of the St James Station, the red buildings looking fabulous beside some grand old willows clothed in their fresh spring growth and bathed in the early morning light.

We then headed to Lake Tennyson

After turning off to the lake the vegetation changed dramatically from tussock grass to the most amazing alpine plants.  They are very beautiful with all their different shapes, textures and lovely muted colours.  The scenery here provided opportunities for close up and landscape photography and when we got to the lake edge we were excited to find some dotterels running around.  They kept everyone busy with their long lenses for quite some time!

After this some of us headed to Island Saddle while others went in the other direction to Acheron.

Island Saddle at 1347 metres is also spectacular, the hillsides to the snow line covered in very colourful vegetation.

On the way back we called in a Fowlers Hut which made for great photos with mountains in the background and a lone clump of daffodils out in front.

After great day out with great company and good weather we headed back to Hanmer late afternoon.

I would like to thank Robyn for organizing this trip.

Nadine Campbell: Dog Stream Waterfall Track

The Dogs Stream Waterfall track was a short drive from our accommodation. It was a steady climb for Jane, Elizabeth, Rose and I from the car park at the end of Mullans Road.  As we passed through mountain beech forest to the impressive 41m high Dog Stream waterfall we came across many things to photograph including fungi, ferns, lichens and native orchids. Lower down most of the orchids hadn’t flowered but as we got higher the flowers became more frequent. There were even some beside the waterfall. It was a busy day on the track, as it was school holidays, but we still managed to get some Orchid shots as well as the Waterfall.
