NPSNZ Field Trip: Ilam Gardens, Christchurch City.
Trip Leader: Peter H.
Trip Report: Annette W.
It was ‘jackets on’ for our seven photographers when we arrived at Ilam Fields in a cool breeze. Our wander through Ilam Gardens revealed that the azaleas and rhododendrons were past their best, and remaining flowers were damaged by the recent hailstorm. We could see damage to other foliage too. More investigative work was needed to find things of interest to photograph. We crossed little bridges over the Avon River, and came across the Ilam Homestead. I appreciated having some help with camera settings in bush lighting.
By 11.30 the breeze had dropped, the sun was out and it was warming up for our next thunderstorm, which eventuated in the afternoon.
However by then we had enjoyed our chat at The Preservatory Café to finish our pleasant morning.
Thank you to our leader Peter.
