Trip Report: Manaia Native Habitat
Wednesday Morning 20 April – 9.15 – 12.00
By Peter Hockley
On a gorgeous autumn day six members ventured to Manaia Native Habitat at Little River. We arrived to birdsong filling the surrounding valley and all spread out up the hillside of regenerated native bush dotted with stands of matai, totara and kahikatea.
Waiting quietly at points along the various tracks soon brought the wood pigeons, bellbirds and fantails around for, hopefully, plenty of great images. After snapping away for a couple of hours we finished off with a picnic lunch in the picnic/camping area of this delightful spot before heading home.
