The day started very early as six adventurous members set out at 5am from Christchurch. Then we all took off to enjoy the sunrise at Nape Nape beach.

Nape Nape is a stony beach with white cliffs at one end. Limestone cliffs and beach can look great at sunrise. We found the shingle road to the beach easy going. We saw plenty of pesty Bunny Rabbits hopping across the road which James did his best not to run over. We arrived to see a lovely sunrise, cloudless sky, and calm conditions. Suddenly Marilyn let out a desperate call for help. Her car had got stuck in the mud. James, the hero of the morning, immediately came to the rescue and found a rope to tow her out. Well done to James.

The walk down the beach was pleasant. Plenty of photos of the rolling waves and limestone Cliffs. We managed to photograph some Dotterels on the beach. After enjoying our early rising and sunrise we went to Café 8 in Cheviot to enjoy some well-earned tasty Food and Hot Drinks.

We then heard that there was a vast array of Daffodils and Snowdrops in the Reserve in Cheviot so we all spent some time enjoying these moments of Spring. Then it was off to St Anne’s Lagoon to photograph wildlife and reflections on this peaceful lake.

Moving on to Glenafric Beach. A good example of mudstone cliffs. It was easy to notice the coastal Erosion. We also fossicked around on the beach for all sorts of shell fragments and fossils.

Overall, a very interesting and adventurous day. The weather remained calm all day. A very pleasant trip in the Hurunui District in North canterbury.

Many thanks to James for organising an adventurous trip to great places.
