About 25 club members and some partners visited this stunning garden in Governors Bay on Sunday 17th March, as part of the club’s 30th Anniversary celebrations. The gardens include original exotic trees planted in the 1860’s by the first owner T.H. Potts, native bushwalks in the shady gully, and formal garden rooms showing different planting styles. A significant feature of the garden is the amazing collection of sculptures and physical structures placed strategically around the garden to frame views or to invite the wanderer down another path.
The unusually calm day with overcast skies enhanced the tranquil and peaceful emotion that I felt during this garden visit, but not forgetting the hard long hours that the house and garden caretakers spend, and the planning and restoration work done by Sir Miles Warren, Pauline and John Trengrove to make this a recognised international garden of significance.
