NPSNZ Mid week field trip to Risingholme Gardens 21 Oct 2020

The day was partly cloudy and a small group visited the Risingholme Gardens in Opawa. The area was given to the city by J.R. McKenzie in 1943 and the Community Centre celebrated its first 50 years of service in 1994.
The house is similar in design to Riccarton House and Oak-Over House. The garden in the front was full of colourful poppies and pansies around its border.
Exploring the boundary borders we found roses, blossom trees, irises, tree peonies and a variety of other plants. The centre lawn area held majestic oaks and conifers. The blackbirds, thrushes, finches, fantails and bees were all very busy.
I didn’t see any of our group using the playground equipment.
We went for the usual coffee and a chat at the Opawa mall. Enjoyable morning and great company. Thanks Peter for organising the day and venue.
