Trip report by Sue Blair
On Tuesday at 9.30am at Taylor’s Mistake it was very wet and windy.
5 of us ventured out of the cars and down onto the beach. We took a few shots on our mobile phones and called it “a washout”.
Others still to arrive were notified that it was coffee in Sumner and we’d wait and see what the weather would do. At 10.00am the sun came out while we negotiated flooded streets to get to the esplanade. The wind whipping the waves and the sun catching them was quite stunning.
I was dropped back to Taylor’s Mistake by Maureen to get my car. The wind hadn’t left but at least it was dry. Barry and Caro arrived shortly after us so we wandered along the beach snapping as we went. There was interesting flotsam at high tide mark and a fantail graced us with it’s company.
I was the last to leave and called into the Sumner Lifeboat launching area to get MANY shots of the huge flock of terns doing what terns do.
Thanks Kath for getting us out there in the wintry conditions, so preparing us for what’s likely to come.
