Finding the gorillas in Uganda was one of the most profound experiences of my life. The two treks through dense rainforest were demanding, but the moment I encountered the families, every step was worth it.
Ever alert, they constantly scanned the treetops for movement, yet their presence radiated calm. At the centre was the silverback, immense, commanding, and utterly in control. With quiet authority, he held the family together, every member instinctively guided by his strength and protection.
What moved me most was the eye-to-eye contact. To meet the gaze of a wild gorilla is unforgettable. Raw, personal, and almost human. It was deeply emotional, a humbling reminder of our shared connection with these extraordinary beings. Through my lens, I sought to capture both the intimate details and the wider rainforest setting, to tell the story of the gorillas’ strength, vulnerability, and the fragile beauty of their world.
