Trip leader- Carolyn Collins

Five of us met on Sunday morning at Pegasus to view and hopefully get some reasonable photos of the resident birdlife on the ponds and the towns central lake. The ponds have a range of NZ and introduced birdlife including spoonbills nesting some distance away, Australasian crested grebes, paradise ducks, black swans, pied and other shags, Australian coots, Canada geese, New Zealand scaups and on the central lake a grebe feeding its chick, white geese, hybrid ducks, etc. and a white-faced heron.

It was an overcast day bordering on light rain but reasonable photography conditions for white birds. A long lens was a handy tool for photographing the spoonbills in particular. We concluded the morning visit with the obligatory cafe meet at the Sunshine and Moonlight café. The option of then going to the Ashley River mouth was not taken up due to the wrong tide phase for bird watching.

Our thanks to Carolyn for organising the trip.
