On one of the coldest mornings of the winter, we set off before the sunrise for Woodend Beach to be met by a very white frost. It was the first time I have walked on frozen sand dunes. We were joined by early dog walkers and a couple of young riders exercising their horses. We then visited Pegasus to look for the Australasian Maned Duck without success. After warming up over a coffee and scones, we visited Waikuku on the basis it would be rude not too, since we were so close. On the way home we revisited Pegasus with success this time. Thanks to Carolyn Collins for prompting us to get out of bed in the cold and dark, well worth the effort.
