Field-Trip: Totara Stumps – Banks Peninsula
Date: 30th March 2019
Leader: Judy L
Trip Report: Judy L
Challenge: – Wind, Cloud and Sculpture
We were certainly given the conditions to meet the challenges.
Ten fellow photographers met at Little River then proceeded up to the Port Levy Saddle car park where we found low cloud (fog), a cold easterly and, after a walk, some lovely totara stumps. Out of this world totara stumps standing out against the fog to catch our eyes plus well misshapen trees due to the constant wind. The harbours below appeared only to vanish again.
Just after midday a little rain threatened so we slowly retreated to a grove of native bush to shelter from the wind and to have lunch. This area was explored for a while before walking back to our cars and down to the Little River café for a well deserved coffee / hot chocolate and where the sun was shining and only a slight breeze. There was an interesting art display at the gallery which we enjoyed.
Thanks to all who turned out on a less than pleasant day.
